One sure thing that’s happening is another Park Theatre Dance Party where DJ g.b. will be spinning great tunes from the disco era on up through today. This one’s on a Friday, so we’re going with an earlier start and end time (8:00 PM to Midnight), AND we’ve lowered cover to just $3!

Nationally-touring act Tribal Seeds comes to the Park Theatre!  Tribal Seedsʻ unmatched musical talent and authentic sound has brought them to the forefront of the reggae rock genre, as their art form has reached people of all ages across the United States, and worldwide. The bandʼs self titled debut album, “Tribal Seeds” was released in 2008, and their second album “The Harvest” was released in June of 2009. iTunes named both albums the “Best Of” in the Reggae genre, for their respected years. Their debut album helped garner them the “Best World Music” title at the San Diego Music Awards in 2008, and “The Harvest,” which contained fourteen new and original songs, debuted at the number 5 spot on the Billboard Reggae Charts.

The Fauxgrass Quartet’s (FQ) riveting originality has quickly landed them a place in the progressive bluegrass community since their 2010 inception. With a fresh, playful, and heart-felt approach to traditional music, FQ’s performances seem to freely flow between genres with truly enjoyable instrumental communication. The current members consist of Adam Balcer (guitar, vocals), Tim McKay (bass, vocals), Joey Schultz (banjo, vocals) and Jason Wheeler (mandolin, vocals). They have toured extensively through the mid-west and northeast coast, as well as establishing themselves as a regular presence in the Michigan music scene. They’ll be releasing their debut album in the winter of 2011/2012 and are continuing to build momentum as their unique songwriting and fun performances find enthusiastic reception around the region. FQ’s creative approach to a familiar musical style is a breath of fresh air, and something worth experiencing for the acoustic music lover.

Lakeshore PFLAG and Holland is Ready are joining for 2012 PRIDE in Holland, Michigan.

7 p.m.: “In Harmony,” a choir of gay and straight adults and young people from Grand Rapids, will perform at the Park Theater.

8 p.m.: “Out at Work,” an hour-long documentary, will be shown at the Park Theater. “Out at Work” chronicles the stories of a cook, an auto worker and a librarian as they seek workplace safety, job security and benefits for gay and lesbian workers. Included is the story of Cheryl Summerville, a cook at a Cracker Barrel restaurant outside Atlanta who received a termination paper stating that she was fired for “failing to demonstrate normal heterosexual values.” Summerville was shocked to discover that in more than 40 American states it was legal to fire workers simply because of their sexual orientation. Also on the DVD is an HBO special that includes the shocking story of a stock trader’s brutal harassment. “Out at Work” received the GLAAD Award for outstanding documentary of the year; a Gold Plaque from the Chicago International Film Festival; and Golden Apple Award from the National Educational Media Network.

9 p.m.: Jay Kaplan, staff attorney for the ACLU of Michigan’s LGBT Project, will speak about the current status of LGBT discrimination in the work place and housing and field any questions the audience might have.
