One sure thing that’s happening is another Park Theatre Dance Party where DJ g.b. will be spinning great tunes from the disco era on up through today. This one’s on a Friday, so we’re going with an earlier start and end time (8:00 PM to Midnight), AND we’ve lowered cover to just $3!

The Fauxgrass Quartet’s (FQ) riveting originality has quickly landed them a place in the progressive bluegrass community since their 2010 inception. With a fresh, playful, and heart-felt approach to traditional music, FQ’s performances seem to freely flow between genres with truly enjoyable instrumental communication. The current members consist of Adam Balcer (guitar, vocals), Tim McKay (bass, vocals), Joey Schultz (banjo, vocals) and Jason Wheeler (mandolin, vocals). They have toured extensively through the mid-west and northeast coast, as well as establishing themselves as a regular presence in the Michigan music scene. They’ll be releasing their debut album in the winter of 2011/2012 and are continuing to build momentum as their unique songwriting and fun performances find enthusiastic reception around the region. FQ’s creative approach to a familiar musical style is a breath of fresh air, and something worth experiencing for the acoustic music lover.

Lakeshore PFLAG and Holland is Ready are joining for 2012 PRIDE in Holland, Michigan.

7 p.m.: “In Harmony,” a choir of gay and straight adults and young people from Grand Rapids, will perform at the Park Theater.

8 p.m.: “Out at Work,” an hour-long documentary, will be shown at the Park Theater. “Out at Work” chronicles the stories of a cook, an auto worker and a librarian as they seek workplace safety, job security and benefits for gay and lesbian workers. Included is the story of Cheryl Summerville, a cook at a Cracker Barrel restaurant outside Atlanta who received a termination paper stating that she was fired for “failing to demonstrate normal heterosexual values.” Summerville was shocked to discover that in more than 40 American states it was legal to fire workers simply because of their sexual orientation. Also on the DVD is an HBO special that includes the shocking story of a stock trader’s brutal harassment. “Out at Work” received the GLAAD Award for outstanding documentary of the year; a Gold Plaque from the Chicago International Film Festival; and Golden Apple Award from the National Educational Media Network.

9 p.m.: Jay Kaplan, staff attorney for the ACLU of Michigan’s LGBT Project, will speak about the current status of LGBT discrimination in the work place and housing and field any questions the audience might have.

Drawing musicians from their hometown of Holland, Mi. West Mitten Media is proud to present its first ever local music event, in hopes to highlight the local music scene. This event will combine live bands, solo artists, and electronic djs all under one roof providing six hours of live music.

Syncedelic This beat-dropping, genre-bending duo was born and raised in the small, conservative, Dutch town of Holland Michigan. These lifelong friends eventually recognized their mutual love for creating music that keeps people shakin’ their ass. Max Lubbers & Tabor Rinks AKA Syncedelic have shared the stage with acts such as Eastown J, Suport, Uncle Jesse, Assorted Anonymous and SuperDre.

Indacoda Blue is a four-piece American band based out of Saugatuck, Michigan. Founded in 2006, the group currently features lead guitarist/vocalist Nick Otting, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Dayne Otto, bassist/vocalist Kevin Turner, and drummer (name soon to be released). The band has a smooth modern rock sound with jazz and classic rock influence, harmonizing vocals, and earthy lyrical content.

Joe Johnson and the Bluebacks is a blues band like no other. We play fast paced and energetic blues songs in our own style. If you haven’t seen us live, you wouldn’t know. The band was pieced together over the past few years, to create a dynamite end result. The band consists of Joe on lead guitar & vocals, Dave on bass, Scotty on guitar & harmonica, and Randy on drums. The band is now booking gigs for 2012. If you are looking for a show instead of just a “band”, then look no further.
